EXTREME WEATHER

The NSNTA is guided by the Tennis Australia Extreme Weather Policy.

Extreme heat

As NSNTA matches are played at night, the Association does not have a specific heat policy. Instead, we follow the guidance in the Tennis Australia Extreme Weather policy for open age competitions.

5.11. Open Competition

(a) If the forecasted WGBT reading within 24 hours and up to one (1) hour before play is due to commence exceeds 32.5oC or ambient temperature exceeds 38.0oC, play may be cancelled and the communicated as broadly as possible to all clubs and participants.

(b) Where, during play the WGBT exceeds 32.5oC or ambient temperature exceeds 38.0oC, play must be suspended on completion of the current game.

The WBGT and ambient temperature can be checked on the Bureau of Meteorology website. The reading used should be from the weather station closest to the location of the match (measured using the shortest path between two points) and taken from the WGBT Shade column.

Teams can consider delaying the start of matches or taking longer breaks between sets to assist with managing hot conditions.
